Why all of a sudden does my 4 yr cat have dark eye crusties? What can they be from?

Answer:

As long as the "crusties" are black and not greenish or
yellowish in color, you have nothing ot worry about. It is really
just a normal variation, seen most often in orange or light colored
cats. Some vets think it is a form of allergy, other think it is just
like "sleep" then forms in the corners of a person's eye. No one
really knows for certain the cause, or why some cats seem to have more
of these crusties than other cats do. But what is agreed upon is that
it is in no way harmful to your cat! So, just wipe them away and your
kitty should be just fine!
