Is my cat in pain?
Submitted by dumboratlvr87 on Apr 08, 2007
I have a 3 year old cat who is very skinny, and meows like he is in horrible pain. He will be sitting in the window and all of a sudden he will shriek and kind of jump like something hurt him. He eats and drinks fine but he is always sounding like he is in pain.

Answer:

It sounds like your cat should be seen by a veterinarian for a thorough physical exam. In a cat this age, it is hard to say what might be causing what you are describing – it could be anything from a urinary tract infection to itchy skin from an allergy to a painful belly due to a serious virus such as feline leukemia or FIV (feline
immunodeficiency virus). Unfortunately, this is not something I can really diagnose without a thorough exam of your cat. So, please do bring him to the vet – a cat this age should not be so skinny and should not seem uncomfortable in any way.

Cheers,

Dr. Jennifer
