My dog was bit
Hello Katrina
My dog was bit by other dog on his left paw a while ago, and even though he's already recovered, ever since that he seems to be kind of depressed, he seems to be "gone" most of the time. Is there any relation between these two? And what can I do? I'd love to get some tips. Thx in advance!
Answer by Katrina*:
I do not know if the bite and the depressed behavior are connected. To address the depressed behavior I recommend engaging your dog both physically and mentally. An easy way to do this is with stuffed chew toys. Get some white sterilized bones or Kong toys and stuff them with food your dog really likes - for example turkey, peanut butter, cheese, cream cheese, or tuna fish are popular choices. You can even freeze the chew toys after you've stuffed them so your dog has to work even harder to get the food out.
Joining a group dog training class such as a basic training or even an agility class that emphasizes positive reinforcement training can be a fun and engaging activity for both you and your dog. Even just going for more or longer walks -or even hikes- with your dog is a good idea. By giving your dog some of these fun activities to engage in, your dog will be less likely to feel depressed.
