Why is my orange cat suddenly getting black spots on her lips and around her eyes?

Why is my orange cat suddenly getting black spots on her lips and around her eyes?

Answer:

Do not worry - this condition is called "lentigo simplex" - it is a type of freckle that is very common in orange cats. She will likely continue to get more as she ages. It is not dangerous and does not need treatment.

If any of these spots look like scabs or non-healing wounds, or they open up and bleed, then you should have her evaluated by a vet for possible skin cancer. But if she does not go outdoors, it highly unlikely that she will have skin cancer.

Just keep a close eye on them, and as long as they continue to be non-raised, no scabbing spots on her lips and eyes, this is just normal freckling. She may also get some on her nose!

Hope that puts your mind at ease!
