Wiping the cat with Baby Wipes?
Submitted by Rebel420 on Aug 11, 2007
Is it safe to gently rub my cat down regularly with a diaper wipe to moisturizes his skin? Won't he try to lick it off?

Answer:

I do not advise wiping your cat down with diaper wipes. There are many substances contained in the wipe which may be harmful if ingested by a cat. Besides, as you correctly noted, he will just lick it off. To add condition to your cat's skin and coat, it is best to work from the inside out. Supplements and foods that are strong in Omega-3 fatty acids do much to promote skin and coat condition, not to mention the numerous benefits to the heart, kidneys, and other internal organs. Omega-3 fatty acids may also help with allergies. These types of fatty acids are prevalent in fish oils, flax seed oil, and cod liver oil. Many diets on the market now contain Omega-3 acids. A small tsp of fish oil per day is adequate to promote healthy skin and hair coat for life. Do give your kitty more than this amount, however, as too much of a good thing can cause problems.
