Cat has Worms!
My cat has worms and I can't afford to pay for the office visit to the vet AND the medicine. What do I do?
Answer:
Well, it depends on the type of worms. There are some over-the-counter treatments for worms, but they are usually not as effective as the type you can purchase from the vet. If they are tapeworms, then the cat needs deworming and flea treatment, since fleas carry tapeworm eggs. Your best bet, though, is to have your kitty examined by a vet. If your cat has been seen in the past year, your vet may be able to prescribe something without an exam - it never hurts to ask! Even though it seems more expensive now - seeing a vet, getting the correct diagnosis, and the most effective treatment will save you money down the line. You can spend a small fortune purchasing over the counter treatments that just don't work, and you could be putting your cat's health at risk by purchasing potentially dangerous products that have not been evaluated by the FDA.
