Ookami is part Husky part wolf
I just want to take this time to talk a little about hybrids. First off, if I could go back in time two years ago I would have never gotten my dog. (Please read)
Let me explain. I love wolves, I love them dearly and of course when I wanted a dog I thought having a wolf dog would be great! I read up on them, did my homework before deciding to get one. When I got him, he was VERY food aggressive. Not a big surprise. I easily trained it out of him. I love him, he is a great dog. Never hurt a single human but likes to kill small animals (yes, even cats). Great with kids! Eats my shoes once in a while, but besides that I have never had any trouble with him.
However, after working with wolves a year ago as an internship, I realized wolves should not be pets.
I do not support wolves as pets; not even hybrids. Over 100,000 hybrids are put down every year due to lack of education. When people ask me what kind of dog he is, I say a husky…. Except online because this is a wolf stock photo account…
But the worst part is people who don’t want them any more think because they are a wolf they can survive in the wild, so they take them into the mountains and let them go.
90% die in a week. The trouble is the ones that survive. If they are released around other wolves and breed with them, it infects the pure wolf population…
I am in no way trying to talk anyone out of getting a hybrid. In fact, if you do I strongly recommend adoption. They need a home…
