What does BETA mean?

BETA means that we are just beginning to test out some features of our site, and developing new ones constantly. In this process things may not be perfect and there may be some small errors here and there. We are also open to suggestions on how to make Pikapet better. Please let us know by going to the Suggestions link on the bottom of the page.

What is RSS?

RSS allows you to automatically keep track of certain parts of content, using an RSS reader (see a list of RSS readers here). For instance, if you want to keep track of the top 10 Small Doggies contest everyday, instead of coming to the website to check out our top dog, you could copy the orange RSS link next to the title Top 5 Small Doggies, and add this link to your RSS reader. Then, you will be able to see an updated version of the top 10 Small Doggies everyday, along with other content that might have been subscribed to, such as news, weather, blogs, etc.

About Pikapoints

What are Pikapoints?

Yes they do. Pikapoints you earn today will expire in 6 months if they are not used. For example: if you earn 10 Pikapoints on January 1st 2007 you have to make use of them by June 30th at the latest; on July 1st you’ll lose those 10 Pikapoints.

About bidding and our Pikapet Rewards Auction

How does the Pikapet Rewards Auction work?

It’s very easy! Sponsors offer their products and services on Pikapet for users to bid on using their Pikapoints.

How does the bidding process work?

  • To bid on an item you have to go first to the Pikapet Rewards Auction page. You can get there by clicking on an item displayed on your pet home page or clicking on the See All Rewards link to see all products. You can also access this page from the My Pikapoints tab under My Account.
  • If you haven’t confirmed your email, you will be requested to do so before you can place any bids.
  • Find a product or service you like and click on it. You will be taken to the reward page where you can see the bid history and end date.
  • If you would like to bid a higher amount of Pikapoints than the current highest bid, you may do so by clicking on the ‘Place Bid’ link. Please note that once you place the bid, those Pikapoints will be unavailable for you to use unless somebody else places a higher bid than yours.
  • If the auction ends and you placed the winning bid, the amount of Pikapoints used will be subtracted from your account, and you will be granted with the reward (please also see terms and conditions)

What terms and conditions exist in order to claim a reward?
  • You must be at least 13 years old.
  • Shipping only to US addresses.
  • To avoid fraud, if a good amount of the Pikapoints used for bidding came from a contest, Pikapet may request you to provide a picture of one of your pets next to a written word. The pet and the word will be determined by Pikapet.
  • You must provide a valid e-mail, telephone and US address.

What happens to my Pikapoints when I place a bid?

Immediately after you place a bid the amount of Pikapoints you bid will be removed from your Pikapoints total. If someone makes a higher bid your Pikapoints will return to your account and you will be able to bid again.

What happens if I win an item?

You will receive an email informing when you win an item. You will have to reply to that mail and give us all the necessary information such as address, telephone, email before the item is delivered. You must certify that your pet is real and you are his/her owner (see terms and conditions)

About participation and user-submitted content

What does it mean to participate and why should I care?

Pikapet is a user-driven site. Yes, that means you.. :) Users submit content and vote for the best. If you find a great link or video that you would like to share, please do so here. Users will give you “paws up” if they like it and we will give you Pikapoints for every “Paws Up”. Also, if the content you suggest is the best-voted of the day, you get bonus Pikapoints. How cool is that?

How do I suggest a video?

Under dogs, cats, or other pets, you can suggest a video by clicking on Suggest a Video located on your Home page, or clicking on the Videos tab

How do I submit a link?

Under dogs, cats, or other pets, you can suggest a video by clicking on Submit A Link located on your Home page, or clicking on the Links tab

What are “Paws Up” and how do I give them?

“Paws Up” is the way users can express if they like what they see. For instance, a user sees a video that he/she likes, so by clicking on “Paws Up” the user will help the count go up. This means that if a video has a high number of “Paws Up”, most likely it will be a great video.
“Paws Up” also gives Pikapoints to the user who submitted the link/video. Each “Paws Up” is equal to 1 Pikapoint.

How do I get Paws Up?

Submitting an interesting and funny link or video could be a way to guarantee that users may give you Paws Up. Also remember that if your video is the most voted one of the day, you will get extra Pikapoints!

How do I get to show up on “I’m SO Popular Today”?

You become the most popular pet if you were the pet with the most new pals and add to favorites of the day. Sometimes being cute is not enough, but interacting with other pets helps a lot too!

About contests

How do I submit my pet to a contest?

You can go to the tab My Pets (in Settings) and scroll down to and click on Submit to Contest. Then you select the picture, caption and winner/loser message you want to use for the match and you click Submit.

Another way is to go to the contest page you want to submit your pet to, and click on the ‘Submit your Pet’ button on the green title bar on top.

What does "Submit to the next issue of this contest" mean?

Our most popular contests are repeated on a regular basis. If you would like to keep on participating and not have to come and submit your pet to the contest every time, you may check this option so that Pikapet submits your pet to the next issue of the contest.

What happens if I remove my pet’s picture during a contest?

Since each contest is mostly based on the picture and not the pet, when you delete the picture you submitted for the contest, your pet will be automatically removed from the contest as well.

How can I vote for the cutest pets?

Simply click on a current contest and then you will see 2 pictures on top. These two pictures is what we call a Pikapet Match, where one pet is challenged for cuteness against another.

Click on the picture of the pet you think is cuter, and then a new Pikapet Match will be loaded. You can either click on the picture box again, or click on the link that says 'Next'. You need to be signed in to vote.

How are pets assigned in a Pikapet Match?

Pets are assigned randomly within a close range of ranking positions to assure the fairness of the contest.

Why do pets lose and win positions so easily?

This happens mainly because all users have different taste for pets, and also because our ranking system was designed to give the same opportunity to pets who entered a contest either at an early or a late stage. However, after a short period of time the average of all votes from the users will set more estable ranking positions.

About my account and my pet(s) profile(s)

What is the Pikapet Inbox?

This is the place where you receive all your messages. Right now you only collect here Pal requests from other users but soon we'll add other kinds of messages as well.

What is “My Family”?

Your family consists of all the pets that you have submitted to Pikapet under the same username. If you have 2 different accounts (2 usernames), each account will be considered a ‘familiy’.

How can I add more members to My Family?

By submitting new pets under the same username

What is a 'location map' and how do I add it to my pet's profile?

A location map is a little map picture that shows your location to other users. You may add a location map to your pet’s profile under My Account, Pet Profile, Add Location Map. This will ask you for your zipcode and that’s all it takes!

What are theme pics and how do I use them?

Theme pics are basically categories that help you organize your pictures. They include: My Tricks, My Toys, My Treats, Me Dressed Up, Me Wet. Under My Account, Pictures, select the link with the theme that best describes the picture you are uploading.

How can I remove my pet?

If you want to remove your pet you can go to My Account, My Pets, where you can find the link Remove pet at the bottom of each pet’s configuration page. We would certainly miss you a lot! :(

What if other Pikapet users think that I'm not the real owner of my pet?

When users see a pet profile with just one picture or a picture too good to be true (e.g. celebrity pets, calendar-like pictures) they may think that the user doesn't really own that pet. We believe it's a good idea to have not only one but a few pictures of each one of your pets so that people don't think you got your picture from the Internet or that you're stealing it from somewhere else. If your pet profile was reported and you think you have fixed this problem, please contact us and let us know.
