Some little things you might want to know
- An AMERICAN STAFFASHIRE TERRIER Is NOT A PITBULL NEITGHTER IS A STAFFIE
-you CAN NOT tell a pitbull from just one or two pictures or a pit mix ethier, MANY breeds look exactly like a pitbull, and are not and even dog show judges and people who spent thier whole life studying this breed can tell from one or two pictures
- All dogs are unpredictable
-a pitbull isnt the same as just any other dog they have a tendency to be stronger then most breeds and more determened to please there owner(thats what gets them into trouble)
-Any dog can be trainded to fight ANY.
-pitbulls were NOT bred to fight they were bred to hunt Bulls and wild boar
-pitbulls jaws do NOT lock and there is nothing special about their jaws, and pitbulls do not have the strogest jaws in the dog world that title belongs to the German Shepherd :]
Next would be the lovely Rottie and then the adorable pitbull
- a pitbull should not wigh over a hundred pounds and should NOT look like a tank of the dogworld they are actually supposse to be more on the skinny side, all dogs that look like the low to the ground tanks are NOT true pitbulls they are hybreds and should not be classified as the same breed |

The 5th one? Oh and today on the news, I heard that this "pitbull" attacked this ladys dog while they were on a walk, well they showed a clip of the "pitbull" and I was like OMD!!! That's not even a pitbull, I know it was a purebred, but I know for a fact it wasnt a pitbull, I have no clue what it is, but I know it's not a popular breed. I hate it when people say there was a pitbull attack when the dog isnt even pitbull

Actually, American Staffordshire terriers (the correct spelling...) ARE pit bulls. They were once upon a time nothing more than an American pit bull terrier. And, in the late 1800's, they were known as the pit bull terrier and the American pit bull terrier. But, the AKC didn't wanna be associated with dog fighting so refused to register any dog with "pit bull" in it's name. And, back then, the bull terrier organization was strict and refused to let them register any other dog (other than the bull terrier himself) under the name "bull terrier". Which always confused me since the staffordshire bull terrier has bull terrier in his name. The AKC will tell you otherwise- but, they're well known for covering up lies. I'm a dog show enthusiast and my bible is The AKC's Complete Dog Book. But, even I will tell you that. Any registry that registers the American pit bull terrier will tell you that once upon a time they were the same breed.
And, the first one is an American bulldog.
The sixth one looks like a mutt.
The fifth one looks like a staffordshire bull terrier mix.
The third one, I'm not quite sure but it's no pit bull.
None of them are the American pit bull terier; if that's what you meant. |

The one in the red collar is an American pit bull terrier.
The first one is a staff. You're pretty good. ;]
Most people I show that one to, guess that #1 is an Am pit bull
and #4 is an Am staff. |

It's hard to explain, really. But, it has to do with pit fighting vs. showing. Think back in the olden days when pit bulls weren't recognized by showing organizations at all. Back then, to produce "quality" pit bull puppies, they fought the dogs. The "champion" dog was often times studed out to produce more champions. The same way dog shows work, only more cruel. Well, when dog fighting became illegal, dog fighters were encouraged to bring their dogs to the show ring instead. When the pit bull came to America, this dog bought to the show ring became known as the American staffordshire terrier. So, you had two types of pit bulls so to speak: the ones in the ring and the ones in the pit. The ones in the ring were bred to fit a certain standard and, eventually, they began to look a bit different. Meaning, the two do have different histories per say. AKC registered American staffordshire terriers can trace their herritage only back to other American staffordshire terriers. But, the other way around- UKC registered American pit bull terriers may find some American staffordshire terrier in their history. We'd never know, though, since American pit bulls aren't included in most DNA tests. Also, did you know tha some people have dual registries between the UKC and the AKC with their American pit bull terrier? You can register an AKC registered American staffordshire with the UKC as an American pit bull terrier. But, it doesn't work the other way around. It's really, really, really confusing... but, the two were once the same breed. American staffordshire terriers were just bred to meet a different standard. |

PS You taught me something.
I didn't know pit bulls were bred to hunt wild boar and stuff like that.
I always thought they were originally rat terriers.

My typists sister used to. Then, my typist changed her mind.
She didn't have the "pit bulls are all evil" mentality, though. She just had the mentality that "it would help them because dog fighters couldn't legally own them". But, my typist told her that they're already breaking the law by fighting the dogs, so they would break it an own them. And, besides, if pit bulls became extinct, there are other dogs used in the pits, too. Such as akitas, bull terriers, rottweilers and boxers. |
