Yeah........when we were 5 weeks old we had worms really bad.Of course, our mommy didnot know that!!It got soo bad that Nala just layed in our mommy's arms and did not move. The vet told our mommy to give us some dewormer.....it took 2 weeks to get all the worms out.The doctor said it was a miracle,we lived...especially since we were so small and young....

I got really sick before, but Mommy never really thought I wouldn't make it, although it did get real scary because I almost needed surgery. Mommy caught my sickness and took me to the vet before it got to bad. I have a corn allergy and it made me get "stuffed up" inside and that made me get sick because I could not digest any more food, once we changed my diet and cleaned me out it took several more days to get my digestive system working, it had stopped for almost a week and the vet was having problems getting it started again. It was just real scary, and prety costly too.. but My parents love me! so it was worth it,

Once I got sick from eating tuna fish. Mommy had only adopted me 1 month before, she was at work and I was home with my human step-sister, who was making tuna fish & some fell on the floor, so of course like any regular dog, I licked it up. About 45 min later mommy gets a call saying that something was wrong with me, I looked horrible. She left work(said her baby was very sick) and came home. My eyes were bulging and I had lumps all over my body. We ran right to the vet. He was asking what did she eat today, mommy didn't know cause she was at work, so he said "Did she eat any fish?" Human step-sister goes "uh oh" & looked real sad. Mommy said "What do you mean Uh oh?" She explained what happened & the vet gave me some medicine. Said if it ever happened again to run & get some Benedryl for me. Well that never happened again. No fish for me!!

Me too!! Mommy said I looked like Gizmo from the movie Gremlins when he got wet. His skin started bubbling right before all the other gremlins popped out. I was lumpy all over.

I recently got really sick and had to have surgery. I was in the hospital for a week and mommy visited me every day! She worried, but was confident that I would make it...she was really worried that if I didn't recover the vet said I would have to go to a special doctor and have a special surgery that would make me a girl! Fortunately, I recovered and haven't gotten blocked again!!!

I've been very lucky when it comes to illness. I've never had to go to the vet in the 14 years I've been with my mommy & auntie *knocks wood* other than the usual stuff. Though my brother Nigel never did either until be got sick when he was 9 and it was an inoperable tumor. I'm hoping to live a good long life yet. :D

I hope you have many more happy years, Sarah!! My brothers have been lucky like you (except for when I came along and gave them ringworm...that's not life threatening though, just annoying to treat!)!

Rupert and Mulato
Mulato was very sick with FUS. Mom would have lost him if she didn't bring him to the vet when she did. He got better real quick and now gives her extra love.

Glad you changed vets and now you are ok. It really sucks when you get a bad vet, when I got sick mommy changed vets because she didn't like the old one.

Sundae
Wow, I never ate tuna fish before. Actually i've never eaten fish period. haha. I always like to chase the little bugs around, they are yellow and black and round with stingers, mommy calls them bee's but i call them monsters. I saw a monster hive on the ground under my mommy's little brother's swingset, so i walked up to it and stiffed it, and let's just say i'll never do it again because i got stung in the foot 6 times and in the toungue 2 times and on the tail 4 times and on my tummy 2 times. I was so swelled up, i couldn't breath and i couldn't walk or anything! My mommy's mommy used to be a pet nurse, so she knew what to do.. She gave me some water and used my bee sting medicine stuff and poked me where i got stung. I didn't know what was going on, my eyes were even swelled up. We waited for maybe 2 hours and the swelling didn't go down, it got BIGGER. I was really scared because i didn't want to die yet! So they took me to the vets' and she said, "Okay so what happened?" and my mommy goes.. "She got into a big bee-hive and i don't know what to do, we tried everything, we gave her some water and we gave her the medicine that you prescribed to us for her allergic reactions towards bees." and the vet goes.. "Okay, well it's a good thing you did that because other-wise she would of swelled up 20 times worse then this." And my mommy said, "Well what can we do?" and the vet gave us some medicines and they shaved my fur where i got stung, and they wiped some medicine that really stung on it and then they gave me a shot where the medicine was. They took me home and kept ice-packs all over me where the bumps were, because the vet said to, and a couple days later, maybe 2 days, i was all better. :] I was really happy, and my mommy was too. After that i know i'm never going to play with those monster-bugs ever again! They were the size of my foot!

Glad you got to the vet in time and got all better. I bet after you looked silly with the shaved spots huh? I haven't learned my lesson with bugs yet, hopefully that doesn't happen with me..

penelope
Last summer penelope was attaked by a pit bull.  the  dog was on a leash and a chain and snapped both and ran at my baby.  the pit had bit her on her cheek. she was going for pennys neck.  thank god my dad was with us, because he scooped up my dog before the pit shook her and hit the dog in the head till it let go, plus the dogs owner was also laying on the dog trying to pin him.   She recovered well and she's back to her normal life.  I am probably more scared of pitbulls than she was but she hides behind ny legs if she does see a pit or a boxer.

One time when i was just a young puppy, I got into RAW chicken! My mommy and daddy had two acres and would let me run around and such, well one day, i  got into the garbage can and pulled out raw chicken...and ate it! I was throwing up and mommy could barely get me to eat. She called the vet and he told her to offer me hamburger and rice and water of course. At first I would not eat any of it...Mommy was very worried and she thought I wouldn't make it. But one day i drank a tiny sip of water and began to ate. Eventually I recovered and lived a lonnnng happy life of 15 years. Thats pretty good for a BIG dog like me  :]

Momma says I'm indestructable. When I was about 3 or 4 months old I got hit by a car. Momma cried and cried, it was like the end of the world to her but.. I was fine. It was after vet hours so she called them all until one agreed to see me. As soon as we got to the office and I saw a stranger ( I love strangers) I started jumping around and momma was like 'Okay she wasn't like this a minute ago' He examined me, no broken bones or anything just gave me some joint medicine. Momma was relieved. Then just a week or two ago I got sick and momma got scared. It started on Friday where I threw everything up, even water and all the food came back whole. Then starting on Saturday I had diarrhea and that lasted through Monday. Monday during the day I was fine as far as energy, then all of a sudden Monday night I didn't have the strength to pick myself up. Momma picked me up to take me outside, she was petrified. She petted me and layed with me all night. Then it was crazy, Tuesday.. all better. Energy back, regular bowel movements. Momma said 'Yup, she's my walking miracle" I never cease to amaze her.

The first time she got stung by a bee it made her really sick really fast.  We took her to the vet and they gave her benadryl and she went right back to her happy self.  Though she still hasn't learned her lesson about bees, she thinks those are toys as well, so she's been stung probably about 5 more times.  I just keep the benadryl on hand at all times.

Punk

There was a guinea pig that mommy rescued with hind leg paralysis. The people who surrendered him said he was going to die. But he didn't.

Mommy gave him a calcium supplement for 2 weeks and then switched him to fresh veggies and not only did he not die, but he completely regained function in his back legs.

When I was littler they ran a blood test and my blood things came back not normal so they had to run a test and mommy cried cause she didn't want me to be sick or have anything wrong with me.

Once everything turned out fine I got to go back home and mommy cried a happy cry knowing that I would be ok.

PEPEIAO LOVES LADY KEESIE

Yes I got really really sick twice and mom thoguht for sure it was over for me.

Once was when I had an allergic reaction to the rabies vaccine. I had to have surgery to remove the mass on my body that it created. Momma says I was pathetic and she thought I was gonners. I got this medicine and although I lost my shiny black hair for life I fully recovered and am as happy as a lark now. From now on I will get the rabies vaccine that they give Ferets instead of the doggie vaccine.

Another time I got into a case of Chocolate Ether Bunnies when mom was not home. They were up on the counter and were for Foster Children. I got up on the table, up to the counter and knocked the case over. I had a field day. When mom came home she found what appeared to be little cow pods everywhere in the house. She had to rush me to the emergency room - again she thought for sure I was gonners. I had to wear this water pack thingy and momma had to sleep on the kitchen floor with me all night while I pooped and popped all that yukky chocolate out.

Did I learn anything by this experience. Yes that I am a chocoholic. Mom got me a Chocolate Labbie sister to ease my cravings!

OK, just to warn ya, this is gonna be a bit gross!  I once got a corn cob out of the trash when nobody was looking and decided to swallow it.  I was fine for a couple of days, then I all of a sudden threw up A LOT.  After that they noticed I wouldn't eat or drink or even get up to follow them from room to room like I always would.  The vomiting got really, really bad.  It was liquid, almost black and had a terrible metallic smell and there was A LOT of it.  This is when Mommy knew that something was seriously wrong and took me to the emergency room.  Then they found on my x-ray that something was completely blocking my intestines and I had to have emergency surgery to remove it.  Yep, it was that corncob.  Mommy didn't think she would lose me because she just could not imagine losing such a strong, healthy boy at 2 years old.  But she was really scared and nervous waiting for that phone call to say the surgery was successful and that I was okay.  One of Mommy's friends that used to work at a vet's office told her later that lots of dogs don't survive something like that and I was very lucky.  Mom and Dad say they are the ones that are lucky!

A long time ago my family had two German Shepherds(I wasn't one of them). The one named Buster got parvo and died. My family had lots of dogs(5) and they were worried about the other dogs getting it. The other German Shepherd, Sampson, got really sick. They were sure he wasn't going to make it. It turned out it wasn't parvo and he got better. Through a horrible and devestating twist of fate he was strangled in the yard. He was tethered because they had no option of a fence at that time but there was nothing around him. One day they were out shopping, which took a long time since they lived so far out in the country and had to drive to the city, and their neighbor parked a truck with lumber in the truck bed near Sampson. We suspect he jumped into the truck bed and down over the other side. It was horrible and needless to say he didn't make it. TT_TT
