I can't help you a lot..

But maybe you are barking for attetion? Be sure that your mommy takes you on two long walks a day for 30 minutes each, that will make you tired and you won't bark a lot.

Well, I don't really get what you're trying to say but to stop barking your human could buy you a bark collar from a nearby pet store. There's ones that shock you a little bit, and i think one sprays a little lemon juice but MANY people use them for their dogs that bark alot and they do NOT hurt your dog(s).

I'm sorry Candi I have to disagree, spraying lemon juice , if you get it in their eyes it stings. Plain water sprayed is used my alot of trainers.

Oh, Ok...I'm sorry...I've never experienced with bark collars so i don't know alot about them. You have a point there Tinkerbelle, If the lemon juice gets in their eyes it will sting them so if you're getting a bark collar i would probably prefer a shock collar but then you have to adjust the shock and the size right so it won't hurt your dog.

i am against  bark collars cause well would you like to get a shock on the neck when you try to talk? so i wont tell you to get that but   i would just say train your dog not  to bark at every little thing that your dog see

My mama had a dog one time that barked constantly and she asked the vet what to do about it, he suggested buying a squirt gun and filling it with water and everytime he barked squirt him with it. The vet said the dog wouldn't like it because it was annoying and he would associate it with the barking and soon start. It worked.

Shadow

Please do not go out and buy a bogus and overpriced ‘training device’ that merely puts your dog in an extreme distress. Shock collars are known to initiate neurological problems, and even death, so I would not imperil my dog’s safety to conclude an issue, which can easily be solved with positive reinforcement.

Shadow was a barker too, but this process helped me correct his behavioral problems, I hope it can aid you as well. Shadow is a special case due to his severe separation anxiety, if I were to leave his sight he would go into hysterics barking and whimpering. With any behavior training, you want ignore the undesired behavior and praise the desired. When your dog goes into a barking rampage, often times shouting is a reinforcing act, and keeps the dog at bay, whereas ignoring the behavior is neutral. When the dog stops barking, praise, and give lots of it! The dog will then begin to associate the praise with being silent. You can also praise anytime to dog is silent. I have heard of methods involving using a squirt bottle or shaking a tin can with change in it, but I like to keep my training positive.

Good luck and happy training!

I am a "major league barker"....I mean BIG time BIG mouth barker....if you know what I mean here!  Momma has tried ignoring me, squirting me with a spray bottle of water, scolding me (that never has a good effect on a pet), and removing me from the situation that caused me to bark.  Nothing was totally effective, but isolating me in my kennel when I got too obnoxious seemed to work the best out of all the things she tried.  She refuses to consider the shock collar method....whew, am I glad of that!

Love from Sophie

SHAKTI

Hello Railey,

Well, we dogs bark because that's one of the ways for us to communicate. However, if the barking becomes excessive - that's a problem and that's probably why your mom is worried.

Maybe instead of trying to figure out what tools your mom should use to make you stop barking, you could try some simplest solutions first...? Tools are great, but if you don't understand the source of the problem, then you can't really fix it. Now, your mom doesn't probably want you to stop barking in every situation, does she? I'm guessing that she only wants you not to bark in certain situations. My mom taught me to make the right decisions about when to bark and when it's not good to do that. I'm never scolded for giving my family a warning about something that's going on around our house. My mom also taught me a command "speak" and "quiet"/"enough". That's very helpful because I realized that barking is good in certain situations. My humans try to listen to me and my ways of communicating with them.

I'd recommend checking if you're getting enough physical and mental stimulation on a regular basis FIRST. Many times excessive barking is caused by lack of proper exercise, bordom and frustration or insecurity about certain situations (you mentioned tall people for example). It's hard to tell - I'd have to know more details about your problem...

What does your mom do when you bark for no apparent reason? Can she get your attention at that time?

I'll be happy to help you to solve this problem! Please feel free to "bark" (so to speak) to me your thoughts about this LOL

Any problem can be fixed, so don't feel bad - I'm sure pretty soon the situation will improve! :)

Big wags,

Shakti
