Have any of you ever really been scared for your pets?

Today before I left the house I put Gizmo up on the couch with her special blankie and put on animal planet. I put Lucy outside because it was such a beautiful day here in Arizona. Usually I put her in a cage because she has severe anxiety. This is the first time I left her out unattended. We don't have fences here, we have brick walls with a wooden gate. Well about 2 hours later I get a call from my neighbor saying she saw Lucy and Gizmo running down the road. She said they refused to come to her. (Yep, that sounded like Lucy alright). But Gizmo? How could she have gotten out? Maybe my 2 year old let her out just before we left? I was so scared. I felt terrible. What was I thinking? The thirty minute car ride home was agony. I got home and there was Gizmo, still where I left her. Completly bothered by the fact that i awoke her so rudely from her slumber. Lucy was outside sitting on the porch basking in the warm sun... Still in the back yard. I have learned today that the cage is not so bad and I will never leave her out back again and I will look and be sure where my babies are every time I leave the house. Also, I love them today more than ever because they are okay and still here, safe and sound...
Imagine the people who have had a dog run away. Terrible. I can imagine never feeling closure. Did they die? Did someone take them in who will love them like I did?
Anyway.. What about you?

DC Praying For Sams Poppa
That story was very scary to mommy and me! Well, you should never let a dog out unattended, mom has learned that the hard way with her old Pointer, Abigail. So now, Mom tries not to even have her back turned to any of her dogs, especially me, because I'll run all around the neighborhood. Mom and I are very glad that nothing bad happened to Gizmo or Lucy. You are very fortunate that they are safe!

Dobbieluver10

Allie would always run away from us when she got outside, either she slipped out from her collar, or she manages to get out from the door....

once she was gone for 5 days straight, everyone was crying, you wouldn't believe how much I cried lol. My mom told me everything would be fine and she would find her way home eventaully...

and she was right. Allie did find her way back home, I am glad :) but now becuase of the fact that we move alot, its going to be harder for her to find her way back home, because she wont recognize the area shes in....

Another time, Jake got out and ran down the street...its a very busy road and if you cross the street without waiting for the cars to stop, your long gone....but Jake did come back the moment I asked him if he wanted a treat :] as for Dustin, he would never run away, he loved being with his owners, and didnt care for taking walks and such.

TARA luvs Kooter
We went to the beach yesterday and it was REALLY WINDY and the sea was really Choppy and Dad threw a stick and Tia my doggie sister ( not blood sister) she ran after it and jamp in the FREEZING choppy sea and mum and Dad were really scared that she wouldn't be able to get back out!!! Tia is 9yrs old and suffers badly with arthritis so I think she must be mental to jump in the sea like that!!! We live in Scotland and the north sea is not a place to be swimming in the winter !!!  She is ok but a wee bit shocked at the time I think!!! I am glad that Gizmo and Lucy are safe!!

Babies
When we were about 9 months old,our grandma let us outside to go potty.Well, she didn't know that back yard-gate was unlocked and opened! So,right after grandma went back inside,we ran right out the gate...Our humans were in tears when they found out that were missing. They looked all day and still could not find us!So,the next day our humans were driving the 15 minute drive to the local animal shelter...that 15 minute car ride felt like 15 hours.....Our humans were soo scared that we were gone forever!! When our humans finally got to the shelter, they went straight to the lost anf found area...Our humans looked down every aisle of animals and still did not see us.They all started to cry for they thought we were gone forever!Just when they were about to leave they saw one kennel they didnt look at ...as they were walking toward the kennel..they heard ppuppies crying and whinning...Our mommy reconized that, that was our crying and whining. When our humans saw us they started all over again for they were soo happy they found us!When we saw our humans,we were soo happy we were jumping and barking very loudly!!!That night ,when all of us got home we had a big party to celebrate us as a family again!!

Peekachu is now Mrs Furby
we go camping alot and my human mommy and daddy like to walk us around the campgrounds. one day my mommy was walking me and tinkerbelle by herself and this man was riding his bike and walking his rottweiller at the same time. when the rottweiller saw us little dogs and took off after us the only way mommy could stop him from killing us was to swing us around up in the air on are leashes until the ignorant man was able to get his dog under control. our mommy was lucky she didn't get bit because as she was swinging us around she was kicking at the rottweiller as he was growling and snapping at her and us. people should not ride a bike and walk a dog at the same time, you just can't control your dog and ride a bike at the same time. my mommy was crying so hard because she thought we were going to get killed by this dog or get a broken neck by being swung around on our collars like that.

JessieBC
Yes, I have. Once, at the park, I was getting out of the car and Jessie just sprang right out after a squirrel. I was terrified, because right around the corner, a car was coming. Jessie wasn't coming to my frantic calls. Thankfully, the driver was aware, and stopped her car while I grabbed Jessie. I was so scared, I had been shaking.

April

When Snowie was staying with us one time, back when Sassy was still alive, we let the dogs out at night(it was summer). We let them all out without leashes, because they all know to come right back. I guess my mom had thought she saw April run in with Snowie and Sassy, but she didn't. In the morning, I awoke to hear my mom calling for April. I was confused, but when I went downstairs to question her about it, she said she couldn't find April. I searched all over the house for her, couldn't find her. We looked outside for her, called her name, had people driving around on the street over to see if they could find her. I was sure she had gotten hit by a car or something because she's so little or someone took her in(because her collar didn't have tags on it). About 3 hours later of searching, we got a call back from the police saying someone down the street had found a small white poodle. We went to pick her up, and it turned out she had been walking in the middle of the street(smart dog, right? She got about a mile away too) and a man was nice enough to stop and crouch down and call her over(Any other way of calling her and she wouldn'tve come) and knock on an old couple's door to call the police and tell them he'd found a dog. We sent both families flowers and a nice picture of April to show our appreciation. :)

We're VERY careful with making sure April is inside at night and stuff.

Candi
One time i was sort of teaching Candi lesson to walk beside me on walks without a leash and she was the best girl in the world for 3 months and one day i took off her leash and she BOLTED RUNNING AS FAST AS SHE SHOULD ACROSS A MAIN ROAD. MY HEART WAS BEATER SO HARD I THOUGHT THAT IT WAS GONNA BE THE END OF THE WORLD. I would have not thought that if she ran she would run towards there anything but i always knew that she is a runaway doggy..lol, Ok so after she started running the first think i thought of is OH NO WHAT IF SHE GETS HIT BY A CAR? So i started running after her like a fool running as fast as a could and the faster i ran to cetch up to her a grab her collar the faster she ran. She ran across the main road, i was a little back of her but i was trying to look for cars coming so I wouldn't get hit. Thankfully Candi and I didn't get hit and then i was a little bit happier but still scared to DEATH because she wouldn't stop running no matter what i did. FINALLY after she ran a mile and i ran a mile NON-STOP i JUST BARELY caught grasp on her collar. Then i the happiest person in the world. I thought that she was NEVER going to stop running and i couldn't run that far because i would like faint but thankfully i had a water bottle with me because i had a sore throat. I figured that if she had ran away on me or got hit, i have no clue what i would do, probably like die. lol jk xD That was the scarriest thing EVER. Pheww...Glad to think thats over. Now i know me lesson. NEVER TO TAKE HER OFF HER LEASH EVER AGAIN. :D
